Public Welcome to Attend Free 2024 Spring Band Concert at Mary

BISMARCK, ND â On Sunday, March 17, the 91”ΔΠConcert Band will perform its annual Spring Concert at 3 p.m. in Luman Vitae University Centerâs (LVUC) Founders Hall, on campus.
Dennis Gowen, professor of Music and director of Bands and High Brass at Mary, says the students are eagerly looking forward to their annual spring presentation.
âOur spring concert falls on St. Patrickâs Day once again,â said Gowen, âand weâre excited to share a couple great tributes to the Irish culture, as well as other gems, with our faithful audience.â
The performance will open with âKirkpatrick Fanfareâ by Andrew Boysen. And later on, the ensemble lets loose with âRiverdance,â a classic nod to the Irish dance phenomenon written by Bill Whelan and arranged for band by Johan de Meij.
âEvery time I hand out this fantastic work, the students are immediately enthralled,â continued Gowen. Rebekah Libby, freshman vocal performance major from Livermore, CA, will join the band in singing the opening movement âCloudsong.ââ
Other works on the program include âPas RedoublĂ©â by Camille Saint-SaĂ«ns, and âSuite in Ebâ by Gustav Holst. âThe Holst Suite is among the most timeless works in our young history of original repertoire for the wind band,â added Gowen. âNumerous students had recently asked to rehearse and perform the Suite as part of their time here at Mary. How do you say ânoâ to a request like that?â
The concert will also feature two student conductors and a student composer. âWeâre fortunate to have three student conductors enrolled in independent conducting lessons this semester,â remarked Gowen. âTwo will conduct works during our spring concert, and one at graduation this year.â
Stephen Talbot, trumpeter and senior music major from Carol Stream, IL, will conduct a premiere of his own recent composition, âPray, Hope, and Donât Worry.â And Christopher Dill, from St. Paul, MN, will conduct âWayfaring Strangerâ by Christopher Nelson.
The concert is free and open to the public. Come join the 91”ΔΠBand for a spectacular array of outstanding musical works on Sunday, March 17, at 3 p.m.
